Incident Number 689

V2 incident 689

On Tuesday 6th Feb 1945, my father, George, was visiting his fiancee (my mother, Lucy) in Ceres Road, Plumstead. A V2 landed in the cemetery of St Nicholas Church at the end of Ceres Road (incident 689). The windows were blown in and Lucy’s father was sat with a window frame around his neck. Later, surviving gravestones were moved to the edge of the cemetery and the churchyard turned into a small park.
