My aunt and uncle were made homeless when the V2 fell on Court Lane, Dulwich at 17:06 on 06/01/1945 and damaged their home in Dovercourt Road. They came to stay with my grandparents and parents in Malfort Road, Peckham.
At 22:40 that same day, a V2 fell on Azenby Road, Peckham, the shock waves bringing down the ceiling and crushing my cot. Because of the obvious upheaval in our house at the time, my mother had brought me from my cot. She was certain that had I been in the cot I could not have survived.
Having been born on 24/11/1944, I was forty-four days old on that day.

I realise I looked at the wrong incident as the Direct Hit Air Break-up over Woolwich Arsenal was on 1 March not 17 March 1945. The report for Jackson Street (1037) says 15 killed and 100 injured so it was quite a serious incident yet there seems to be little information available.

I’d be interested to know more details about the Woolwich Arsenal V2 (incident 891). The description says ‘Direct Hit Air Break-Up’ which suggests it was intercepted. In fact the rocket, or a substantial part of it, landed in Jackson Street in Woolwich, just across from the Arsenal. My mother’s family were in their house in Jackson Street at the time, 5.42am on St Patrick’s Day, 1945. My mother (Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Humble) remembers pulling her older sister, my aunt Jean, from the building, despite being a child herself. Jackson Street is no longer there, it used to be off what is now Nightingale Vale. Unfortunately my mum and my aunt are no longer here either, but my mum remembered that day vividly her whole life.

V2 rocket ww2 December 1944, 229 Lanaster Road, London – hit my grandmother’s house. She was in the basement, in the kitchen at 79 years old. She lived a further 10 .5 years. My cousin was in the top floor and fell to the basement. Protection from fallen rafters saved his life, but he suffered problems with his back. He died in 1991. My, previously deceased grand- father had stabling for local traders. The horses did not survive. When the fire brigade arrived, my uncle (Allan Humpries) arrived, being a fireman. Later, a cousin (John Bowles) was part of the domolition squad.

In reply to Ron Bush. Mother, pregnant at the time told me one landed on Cranmore road, a couple of houses down from White Horse Hill and someone was killed. She was in bed at the time and glass landed on the bed. I was born a few days after the war ended. There were large wooden props supporting the side of our house for a few years before repaired. May who as kids we referred to as Auntie lived at the first house in Cranmore at the bottom of our and Dr Groome's gardens.

Betty Ellen Howlett (nee Webb, DoB: 13 December 1926/ DoD: 1 December 1944) should be on your list, I think.
Her death is recorded as being on 1 December 1944 at Middlesex County Hospital, Edmonton. Registration Date of record: 2 December 1944. Dated: 5 December 1944. Death Number and Series of Certificate: 175522 -27, Entry Number: 145. Document is headlined: Tottenham And Wood Green Burial Board – Enfield Crematorium.
She was the first wife of my father, Thomas Ernest Richard HOWLETT. They were married on 21 May 1944 in Church of Broughton Place,Edinburgh,Scotland. Her address at time of marriage was: 1 Caversham Road, Kentish Town, London. My father’s address at time of marriage was: 59 York Place, Edinburgh. Document is headlined: Certificate of Proclamation of Banns.
I have been led to believe that her death was the result of war time attack.

Hi Ian, My nan's sister Margaret also died at 108 Iverson Road on 8th Jan 1945, I have no idea why she was at that address as they lived at 47 Iverson Road, my nan was evacuated in 1939 so she probably wasn't told alot about her sister's death as she was only young at the time, all my nan told me about her sister was she died when a wall fell on her during the war.
